This year, we are having a klezbarn
on the Saturday before the Big Band Concert.
We can run through some tunes
and stay up far too late so that we will all look and feel our best for the concert
on Sunday.
Places are limited to about 20
- please phone Steve for
details 0161-881 0505
Can
I bring friends?
Yes - please publicise the concert!
You
can download a flyer here - MS
Word (29k).
How many people will there be in the Big Band?
Last year there were 28!
What music is the Big Band playing?
When we work out what the set list is, we will put it on this page. Downloadable
sheet music will be available on this site.
Are there any
clever arrangements of the Big Band music?
There's not much
time but we are going to try and put together some simple arrangements in the
afternoon.
Can I be part of a small group?
Most likely, yes - contact Steve 0161-881 0505 or email.
(Sean, do you want to do the tune you wrote for Sue?)
Car
Parking
The Irish Centre has a large car park on Cros Road
which is patrolled in the evening.
How do I get in the building
in the afternoon?
The main door is in the car park (ie not
on High Lane).
I can't come to the rehearsal...
We really want people to come to the rehearsal (14:30 for 14:45 start) so we
can do the arrangements - otherwise the concert will be just like a big session
- please phone Steve on 0161-881 0505 if you have an unsurmountable problem with
coming in the afternoon.
What if I don't know all the tunes?
See if you can pick them up in time for the day, but dont worry you can sit
some of them out if needs be.
Do I need to bring music?
Music is allowed. Please bring your own copies of music and a music stand if
you need one.
Is there a dress code for the band?
Not a compulsory one, but I'm considering wearing my DJ...
What
about tea for the people who will be there for the afternoon?
You can bring sandwiches and there are numerous good eateries in nearby Chorlton.
There's
also a Kentucky Fried Chicken (yum!) and a MacDonalds (double yum!) a mere 5 minutes
away.
...don't be late back now!
I'm worried about the
idea of a PA system...
This will be more of a sound reinforcement
thing than anything loud! There will just be a few mics out to give a general
ambient pickup of the sound on stage.
You don't need to bring pickups for
insruments.
Have you got a helpful friend?
Have you a friend who would be willing to mind the door in the evening?
Recording
and photos
We will be doing a sound recording and taking some
photos - last year we gave a CD to all the musicians. This year's concert does
not have sponsorship so if we manage to make a suitable CD we might have to make
a token charge.
