Concert - Steve Tekov Big Band

The Dream

This has been a dream of ours for a couple of years now, and we promised our sponsors (the JMI) that we would actually make it happen this year!

The idea was born in one of the pub sessions when we realised that there was not just one clarinet player but a whole clarinet section! So we committed to putting on a big concert at the end of the 2002-2003 season.

Can we really look like this?

The Klezmer Concert with the Steve Tekov Big Band

The concert took place in the evening of Sunday 22nd June, 2003, with a rehearsal in the afternoon. The venue was upstairs in The Southern Hotel in Chorlton, South Manchester - this venue is also the home of The Buzz comedy club - see map.

The concert was the final event of the Millenium Award funded series of workshops and master classes. There were bands from Manchester and Sheffield, small ensembles, dancers and the first ever public performance of Steve Tekov's Klezmer Big Band.Download flyer here - MS Word (24k) or PDF (10k)

Where do I get tickets?

This is a free event, sponsored by the JMI in London. We will not be having tickets, but if a lot of people turn up on the night we will close the doors when the house is full.

Where is is the venue?

The Southern Hotel, Chorlton, South Manchester, junction of Mauldeth Road and Nell Lane - see map.

What time is everything?

For the concert arrive at 19:00 to get a drink in and be comfy for a 19:30 start.

For the big band, arrive at 14:30 for the afternoon rehearsal

What is the venue like?

It's a very large upstairs function room above a pub. There is another large adjoining room where we can put coats and cases. It's got a largish low stage and pub tables.The bar is open throughout the evening.
